Cabin
Orion
Perched on the side of the hill overlooking wildflower meadows, Orion is perfectly positioned to enjoy the rolling Blackdown Hills, stunning sunsets and breathtaking starry skies.
This unique, off-grid hut, tucked away in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts a vast stargazing window above the king size bed and a vintage roll top bath on the private deck making it a hideaway not to be missed.
Built in 2020, Orion is a uniquely designed, hand built hut, carefully sited in a 4 acre field at Royal Oak Farm in the Blackdown Hills, a short drive away from the world famous Jurassic Coast and the Southwest Coastal Footpath.
The cabin has a fully equipped kitchenette with hot running water, a fridge and a gas hob. The sumptuous king sized bed beneath a vast skylight window (fitted with blackout blinds) makes the most of every opportunity to catch sight of a shooting star. The large en-suite shower room is fitted with a large walk-in shower and vanity unit with a sink. A compost loo is accessed through a doorway from the shower room.
The wood burning stove will keep you toasty in the cooler months and on chilly nights. We provide a basket of logs, kindling and fire lighters for your stay. We have additional logs and kindling available to purchase if you require more.
The spacious living-eating space has two arm chairs and a table and chairs for two, positioned to take in the view from the French windows which open out on to a spacious private deck.
On the grass area below the cabin you’ll find your very own gravelled fire pit area with everything you need for alfresco cooking and dining along with seating to relax and to watch the stars or take in the view in your own little haven.
The private deck boasts a vintage roll top bath with ample hot running water so that you can enjoy a luxurious soak beneath the stars. You'll find a stargazing monocular, binoculars with star books and maps to make the most of the dark skies. There are also plenty of cosy blankets to keep you warm by the fire after dark.
The hut is powered entirely from solar energy, with LPG gas for cooking and hot water, making your experience completely 'off-grid'. The site has 4G on most mobile networks but Wifi is not available in the cabins. We invite guests to make the most of being able to switch off and unwind away from the bustle of daily life. The cabin has a usb charging point for recharging phones but due to its 12v nature there are no 13amp plug sockets.
Bedding and towels are provided. We also provide complimentary tea, coffee and sugar and salt and pepper and olive oil for cooking.
Because we have livestock on the farm and we grow food products we unfortunately cannot allow dogs on the farm.
