George's Wooden Tipi (sleeps 2)
Situated on the Suffolk-Essex border close to Cambridge, Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill, and set within a Suffolk County Wildlife area, George’s, our cosy fully insulated wooden tipi, overlooks Rum Bridge’s mature reed-fringed treelined ‘Road’ lake; which in turn is home to specimen sized tench, crucians, carp and pike.
Equipped with a double bed, and bedside tables, a metered electrical supply - for lighting, device charging and heating, and exclusive outdoor seating and barbecue area, it is the right choice not just for anglers, but for walkers, birders, photographers… in fact anyone seeking to recharge the batteries in a tranquil offgrid rural retreat.
Showers, toilets and a communal ‘field kitchen’ are close by, as is a fully stocked tackle & bait shop. Hot and cold snacks, breakfast, lunches and dinner available from the onsite 'Carol's Kitchen' food concession. And an extensive takeaway delivery menu is available seven days a week.
The Tipi’s exclusive bankside area features a dedicated fishing swim with access to many carp holding features, including small dot islands, reeds and lily beds.
All guests have access to a dedicated sitting-out area and a small ‘field kitchen’(food prep area) with worktop, butler sink and hot and cold running water.
Close to the banks of the River Stour, in the heart of the tranquil Suffolk countryside, Rum Bridge is situated within easy driving distance of Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Colchester, and the Suffolk coast. The market town of Clare is home to a wealth of shops, cafes, pubs and eateries, as well as a 13th century Augustinian Priory, Clare Country Park, the stone keep ruins of Clare Castle, a medieval church and museum.
For your security, the gates are locked at dusk; however, guests can be provided with the gate lock combination, enabling you to come and go as you please.
To make Rum Bridge budget friendly, we allow guests to book our accommodation only, and to supply their own bedding. We do offer bedding as an optional extra - pillows, duvet and covers, and additional blankets in the colder months; together with the following options and extras, all of which are designed to make your break as relaxing and enjoyable as possible…
**Cook tent**
Our purpose-designed cook tents can be pitched next to your accommodation, and feature twin-burner gas stoves with grill, kettle, cookware, crockery and a large container of fresh water.
**Firepit package**
Guests who prefer to dine al fresco may wish to rent a fire pit with grill, which can be supplied with either logs and kindling or charcoal, tongs, skewers, matches, firelighters and even a bag of marshmallows.
**Angling permits**
Day-night fishing permits are available allowing you to target the lake’s impressive stock of specimen fish. And fishing on the adjacent Moat Lake is also available at a discounted rate.
**IMPORTANT: please be aware that Rum Bridge is ‘off-grid’ - which means we have no mains electric. This means that the quality of lighting around the site will vary with prevailing conditions, and the supply to the pod can be variable.**
